Special Projects

Streetscapes

Gateways

Public Buildings

Other

Fountain/Waterfall that is lit at night

Sites proffered: 1) on the green space across the street from the police station; where the gateway sign is. 2) Ma Riis Park to represent the Town House area as a "govt. center" 3) once town owns the land where present commuter parking is located, one would be nice where the present bus stop is – across from the bank. A nice little plaza could be created in that space. This is at least 2 years away, as the parking garage has to be built first.

Decorative Clock

Sites proffered: 1) Taylor Square in the business district of WH

2) Between Bank & the Flower Mart 3) Ma Riis Park

Streetlamp Banners townwide in commercial districts

Sites proffered: 1) Halstead Ave 2) Lake Street (quaint & tasteful, not tacky with co-op advertising on them, like Port Chester)

Additional black street lamps with white tops

Sites proffered: 1)Halstead Ave 2)WH business district

Tree planters

Sites: 1) Commercial/Bus areas Downtown & West Harrison

2) Train Station overpass from Harrison Ave into Halstead

Taylor Square Island

Needs to be reconfigured; it’s obvious that poor planning has diminished the esthetic potential of that green area of the WH business district.

Pedestrian Crosswalks

WP has cobblestone like crosswalks that are quaint and very pretty; would give the town a very cozy look for the better.

Restore park-like area

Site proffered: Near the Harrison Police Station – new gateway sign, new landscaping, and 1-2 benches

Need to be improved by new signs and/or landscaping

Sites proffered:

1) Rye into Harrison

2) Mamaroneck into Halstead Ave. 3)Westchester Ave into WH 4) WP in WH Lake Street

Gateway Signs

Sites proffered: 1) Westchester Ave. triangle & Purchase St.

2) The foot of Anderson Hill Rd heading East toward the Purchase School 3) Attractive hanging signs distinguishing WH & Purchase coming from the Airport. 4) Lake Street from WP heading east and north into WH there is a lot of green space to utilize.

Recreation Bldgs.

Sollazo Center: Replace bushes, new holiday decorations.

Leo Mintzer Center: Landscaping & benches for seniors to sit on.

WH Library: Landscaping, flower beds, appropriate fencing and walkway to represent the historical significance this building represents to the community.

Restore park- like areas

Site proffered:

Near the Sound Federal Savings Bank on Halstead Ave.  Replace old street signs, redo landscaping, get new planters, bench and garbage receptacle.

Significant plantings town wide

Using WP, Greenwich, Larchmont and other communities as examples perhaps a committee should be formed to do site audits, create a plan and report back to the membership.

Site: Police Station -in front of the stone wall on the Harrison Ave.& Pleasant Ridge Rd,

New street signs for commercial areas town wide

Sites:1) Downtown - Halstead Avenue and all streets off Halstead, i.e. Purdy, Harrison Ave, etc 2) WH Underhill Ave & Lake St.and all streets off Underhill, i.e. Underhill Place, Elmwood, Madison, Hancock.etc

.

Directory Sign at Train Station

Direct visitors to shops, parking, restaurants, etc. (Norwalk has several that look absolutely great)

NOTES: Ř A suggestion was made about dedicating whatever is decided to a person, company, a doer in the community It could be a politician, a merchant ..someone who has done a lot for our community in the past or recently.. would be purposeful and beautiful.

Ř Think about timetables …maybe the way to go is to have a laundry list of 4-5 projects and have people earmark their donation to "x".
